LATRINE CENSUS: The annual counting of pit toilets is already under preparation
As a new precaution, not only the number of self-help relief facilities should be registered, but also their compliance with the set hygienic standard. The status of all future technical improvements will also be monitored, with an expected reassessment of the functional classification of every unit at intervals of approximately 12 months (i.e., practically every year). Some people can be upset by the already common and indeed only occasional census, but believe, this report is not a joke. Seriously: Capable volunteers from the ranks of the lay and professional public are already being sought, and the driving force will be money — the pre-prepared twenty-thousand-dollar reward is already waiting for the leading toilet counting master.
One of the conditions is that the new counting methodology should capture and correctly classify at least 90 % of the release booths according to their actual technological level. This also brings new opportunities to imaginative start-ups and inventors: The published global challenge mobilizes inventive programmers, computer experts, engineers, designers, mathematicians, statisticians, and social innovators to participate and compete for victory. The chance lasts until September 7, 2021, the announced application closing date.
At first glance, this topic might seem just a laughing matter, but in many parts of the world, hygiene is still a serious problem. It is such areas that the “World Vision” global tender primarily focuses on, although some views do not preclude the gradual expansion of the project to all corners of the world. Thus, even our builders, operators and fans of improvised outhouse closets should not “sleep on their laurels” in their creations.
